Linguistic Issues in the Modern World

Many industrial and technological advances allow companies to become international, and work with a variety of different people. Boston University research states there are over 80,000 multinational companies worldwide, and the "leading international companies have created more than 370,000 subsidiaries globally" (Economist Intelligence Unit). However, language and culture gaps have always been an issue when attempting to communicate between speakers of different languages, causing misunderstanding and strain on business relationships which can affect profits and delay completion of tasks.
